Registration open for webinar on Central Valley salinity buildup

The Central Valley Salinity Alternatives for Long-term Sustainability (CV-SALTS) will hold a webinar explaining the science and planning behind the management of salt buildup in the region on Oct. 29.

The webinar will run from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Registration is required for the event. The registration deadline is Oct. 29 at 9 a.m.

CV-SALTS is overseen by the state Water Resources Control Board and the Central Valley Water Board and works with local water managers and community organizations using state-of-the-art engineering software to understand how groundwater moves beneath the Central Valley as part of a long-term salt study.

The two goals of the CV-SALTS program are long-term salinity management and nitrate management.

In order to accomplish a long-term solution, CV-SALTS created a salt study, which began in 2022 and aims to develop a Central Valley-wide plan to manage salinity, focusing first on the Kings and Delta-Mendota subbasins.
