Farmers invited to free SGMA workshop in Tulare County
A workshop aiming to help farmers find economical ways to remain in business through crop alternatives, farm management and land repurposing will be held March 31 from 7:45 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The event will take place at the Tulare County Co-op Extension building, 4437 S Laspina St.
The workshop is a collaboration between the Tule Land and Water Conservation Trust and the University of California’s Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources.
Light refreshments and lunch will be provided. Registration is free and can be found here.
The event’s focus is on farmers staying in business through the implementation of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA), which aims to have local entities bring aquifers into balance by 2040.
The agenda will include panels on:
- Grants and support for farmers
- Sustainable farming practices
- Groundwater recharge strategies
- Information on alternative crops, fallowing ground and grazing
