Amateur, but thorough, snow watcher Scott Williams released his monthly “Kern River Snow and Water Report” April 2 and the news is subpar.

Annual runoff from the watershed is anticipated to be 33% of average this year based on the paltry snow pack left following the significantly dry January, February and March months.

Williams compiles data from several publicly available sources for his monthly reports, which he releases from Nov. 1 through June 1.

With dreams of a “March Miracle” now officially dashed, perhaps we can hope for an “Awesome April?” Or a “Magnificent May?”  Even a “Moderate May” could help bolster California’s woeful 2022 water year.
