KGET Ch. 17 Anchor Jim Scott in Bakersfield invited SJV Water back for more water talk this week.

The show, Kern County In Depth, airs THIS Saturday (Feb. 1) at 6 p.m. on Channel 17.

SJV Water Editor and CEO Lois Henry talks with Rosedale-Rio Bravo Water Storage District General Manager Eric Averett and Kern Groundwater Authority (KGA) consultant Patty Poire about the important milestone reached this week under the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA).

Groundwater Sustainability Agencies in critically overdrafted basins (mostly in the southern San Joaquin Valley) had to upload plans by Jan. 31 for how they would bring groundwater into balance over the next 20 years.

These are massive technical documents. The stack sitting in front of Patty on the set include the executive “summary” and one of 16 management area plans being handled by the KGA.

And those stacks don’t include the appendices. OY!

The most interesting takeaway from the discussion for SJV Water? The growing push by valley water/farming interests to try find ways to increase surface water shipped south.

Watch the show and let us know your biggest takeaway.

If you miss it on TV, don’t forget you can catch it online later at: https://www.kget.com/kern-county-in-depth/
