Volunteers needed to foster and release trout into the Kings River

It’s time for the Kings River Fisheries Management Program’s annual trout program where volunteers can help release trout into the Kings River on April 16.

Orientation is required for all first-time volunteers who may contact Environmental Resource Analyst Lori Werner at lwerner@krcd.org for more information.

The program needs six to 10 volunteers for the trout release event. Sign up for that day can be found here

It’s strongly recommended that volunteers for release day are able to transport five gallon buckets in their vehicles and be physically able to carry 20-pound buckets over uneven terrain.

The program is a joint effort between the Kings River Conservation District, Kings River Water Association and California Department of Fish and Wildlife, which aims to improve and enhance the lower Kings River and its fish habitat.

Other volunteer opportunities include a monthly river cleanup and a fish population survey held in the fall. To learn more about volunteering, check the program’s website
