Upcoming: Free fishing, painting events on the Kings River in February

The Kings River Conservancy is hosting various outdoor events along the Kings River.

  • Feb. 7, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.: The “Get Outdoors!” youth program will meet in Piedra at the Kings River Wildlife area. Activities include learning to fish, making leaf art, exploring and a bird walk. Lunch provided. Transportation is available from the Betty Rodriguez Library in Fresno and the Sanger Community Center. A $5 refundable deposit required for transportation. Registration is recommended.
  • Feb. 21, 10:30 a.m.: The monthly “Get Curious on the Kings” event at the Kings River Wildlife area will feature local artist Gary Taylor who will lead a watercolor painting workshop. Participants will learn about landscape painting, sketching riverfront scenes and practicing watercolor techniques. This event is for participants 21 and over. Next month’s “Get Curious” event will be an introduction class on fly fishing on March 21. Participants will learn about the sport before trying their hand at fly fishing along the Kings River. Participants 16 and older will need a fishing license.Registration can also be found here

The Conservancy, a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting the lower Kings River, offers several community programs such as monthly river clean ups, nature walks and an educational program.
