An online summit will look back to the last five years of progress in reducing and managing salts and nitrate in the Central Valley June 30 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The Central Valley Salinity Alternatives for Long-Term Sustainability (CV-SALTS) aims to improve water quality in the region by reducing salt and nitrate in groundwater.

Joaquin Esquivel, chair of the state Water Resources Control Board, will be the featured speaker at the event.

CV-SALTS oversees several valley “management zones” within the valley, which are tasked with testing domestic wells for excessive nitrate contamination and providing clean drinking water.

The first management zones include Modeso, Turlock, Chowchilla, Tule, Kaweah and the Kings and Tulare Lake groundwater subbasin

Priority two areas include the Delta-Mendota, Eastern San Joaquin, Madera, Merced, Tulare Lake, Yolo, Kern County (Poso) and Kern County (West-side south) subbasins.

Community leaders, water managers, governmental agencies and anyone interested in sustainability of the Central Valley are invited to the event.

Registration is required in order to attain the zoom link.
